Mozambique: At least six dead, 15 shot in protests on Monday - NGO
The Mozambican capital Maputo will on Monday host the inauguration session of the National Forum of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) involving 36 countries on the continent.According to state Radio Mozambique, the session will have as its agenda the evaluation of member countries democracy and public governance status, economic and corporate governance and socio-economic development.
The state broadcaster says the forum will also serve to inaugurate a new APRM cycle under the leadership of Mozambique, Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, Algeria, South Africa, Rwanda and Ghana.
The ceremony will be attended by government functionaries and civil society officials from APRM member countries.
Founded in 2003, the APRM is a mutually agreed instrument voluntarily acceded to by the member states of the African Union (AU) as a self-monitoring mechanism.
The mandate of the APRM is to encourage conformity regarding political, economic and corporate governance values, codes and standards, among African countries and the objectives in socio-economic development within the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD).
