The Bar Association of Mozambique (OAM), the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the Portuguese National Delegation of the ICC are holding the first ICC International Arbitration Conference in Mozambique.
The conference is to take place on January 25, in Maputo city, reports Notícias on Wednesday (January 20).
A press release from the OAM says that the day-long conference is targeted at lawyers practising litigation and arbitration, directors and consultants of companies involved in international commercial arbitration, students and other legal professionals.
“The International Court of Arbitration is the world’s leading body for the resolution of international disputes by arbitration,” reads the ICC’ webpage, adding that “the universal scope of the International Court of Arbitration, commonly known as “the Court”, is evidenced by the fact that each year, numerous parties, arbitrators and lawyers from countries of every economic, political and social system are present in ICC arbitrations.”
The ICC was founded in 1919 under the leadership of its first president Etienne Clementel, a former French minister of commerce. Since that time the international secretariat of the organization has been located in Paris, France.
