Maputo governor suspends Chinese company

The governor of Maputo province, Raimundo Diomba, last Friday ordered a Chinese company extracting sand from the Umbelúzi river, Boane district, to suspend operations.
According to the Maputo region water production and distribution company director Gildo Timoteo, the Chinese company is accused of releasing oil into the river during the course of its activities, and of digging pits so large as to divert the river from its normal course.
