Four passenger buses parked in lot known as ‘Camionagem de Moçambique’, in the Inhagóia neighbourhood, Maputo city, were burned out in a fire last night.
The fire, which lasted almost two hours, was brought under control by the National Public Salvation Service (SENSAP).
The cause of the incident, which destroyed several vehicles belonging to a private transport company, is not yet known, but a SENSAP agent said that a team of experts would be visiting the site today (Friday) to investigate.
Some motorists managed to remove their own vehicles from the parking lot after the first explosions, and also prevented other vehicles from being consumed by the flames.
The fire caused traffic tailbacks along the EN1 for many hours, in addition to perturbing neighbourhood residents.
