Maputo Municipal Council (CMM), in coordination with the Mozambican Police (PRM) and the National Inspectorate of Economic Activities (INAE), has set up a working group to monitor the price of goods and services during the festive season.
According to the CMM councillor for local economic development Danúbio Lado, who announced the working group on Wednesday, during the presentation of the Action Plan for the 2023-2024 festive season, “we have brigades deployed. At the moment, in the municipal markets, they are monitoring the supply of products and the respective application of prices.”
“We are working with our police and INAE to prevent speculation and hoarding of foodstuffs”, he added.
Lado also guaranteed that Maputo City has sufficient stocks to meet demand during the festive season.
With regard to health care, he stressed that this is guaranteed, because in addition to four general hospitals, five health centers will also be open 24 hours a day.
Lado added “We are also working to ensure that fireworks are used safely. To this end, we have stipulated a time interval from 23:50 to 00:10 during which fireworks can be used.”
He appealed to the city’s residents to respect the established hours for going to the beach, which are from 05h00 to 20h00 and, exceptionally, from 20h00 until the following day during New Year’s Eve, and to ensure the beaches are cleaned up after the festivities.
