The second “Maputo Climate Talk” was held yesterday, April 22, in Maputo, bringing together government leaders, private companies, representatives of the renewable energy sector and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to discuss strategies and partnerships that promote the empowerment of women and girls in the energy sector.
Held under the slogan “Women in energy: Renewable energies as new opportunities for girls and women”, the event aimed to foster access to training and open doors for women to play a more active role in Mozambique’s energy transition.
This event was inspired by Mozambique’s recent Energy Transition Strategy, launched at COP 28 in Dubai, which seeks to guarantee “Energy for All”. With this, Mozambique is moving towards becoming a renewable energy hub in the region, promoting the integration of these sources into itsenergy mix, creating an appropriate environment for new economic opportunities and professional qualifications.
The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Ronald Muench, who hosted the event, highlighted the importance of promoting women’s access to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)in the energy sector. Germany, through the Team Europe Initiatives (TEI) and the E-Youth program, reinforced its commitment to supporting Mozambique in promoting gender inclusion in the energy sector and empowering women for green and sustainable jobs.
This event runs in parallel with RENMOZ 2025 – 4th Business Conference on Renewable Energy in Mozambique, organized by the Mozambican Renewable Energy Association (AMER) and the Lusophone Renewable Energy Association (ALER), with the support of GET.invest Mozambique (funded by the European Union, Germany and part of the European GET.invest programme), the Swedish Embassy and the Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund (AECF), reinforcing its strategic role in the country’s energy transformation. The synergy between these events highlights the urgency of an inclusive and collaborative approach to the country’s energy transition.
Alongside partners such as Mozambique Women of Energy (MWE), Germany reaffirms its commitment to gender equality and skills development in the renewable energy sector, contributing significantly to a sustainable and equitable future in Mozambique
