Maputo city council has privatized the cleaning of the city’s drainage system, and the companies selected are already at work.
The companies won tenders for a two-year contract, with one of the companies undertaking the rehabilitation of damaged infrastructure to allow water to clear normally and the other concerning itself with maintenance.
Circe Chally, council Director of Water and Sanitation, says she expects the companies to ensure the infrastructure is in working order before the rainy season, due soon.
