Mozambique: Matola Mayor visits 'xivotchongo' factories - Watch

The city of Maputo woke up quiet, with fewer cars on the roads compared to other days of the week and fear of venturing out due to possible demonstrations thought to be to blame.
A team of Folha do Maputo reporters made the rounds of the main entry points to the city early this morning and reported substantially reduced traffic flows and noticeably fewer passengers on public transport.
Some carriers interviewed by Folha do Maputo deprecated what they called the “wave of misinformation” and called on the public to make their way to work as normal. “This thing going around saying that there are demonstrations is harming us. We only have a few passengers. Today we can’t even afford the recipe. It’s just … hunger,” Paito, a chapa driver on the Museu-Benfica route, complained.
Jorge Langa, who services the Zimpeto – Xipamanine route, said he had difficulty understanding the reasons for so much misinformation. “This is getting increasingly worrisome. Those who go around sending messages don’t know how much damage they do to others who live from day to day.”
In Maputo markets like Xipamanine the atmosphere is normal, with vendors loading their stalls and getting ready to open shop, but there is a notable police presence in parts of the city that have been the starting points of demonstrations in the past.
