The man detained for allegedly repeatedly raping and impregnating a 13-year-old minor, and presented to the press on Monday 1 March at the 23rd Police Station in Chiango, Maputo city, has been released, ‘Notícias’ reports.
The move has left the teenager’s family dissatisfied and demanding clarification from the police authorities, ‘Notícias’ adds.
The child was the victim of systematic sexual abuse by her uncle in Maputo’s Albasine neighbourhood and is now four months’ pregnant.
The abuse was discovered by family members only when they realised the changes in the victim’s body. The child says that her uncle enticed her with gifts.
The uncle, 48 years old and responsible for the teenager since the first years of her life, admitted the offences, but said that the rapes took place in the family’s machamba “with the consent of the minor”, reads the Noticias report.
