Maputo Central Hospital: Fire consumes operating theatre undergoing rehabilitation – O País

At around 4:00 p.m. yesterday (20-09), employees of Maputo Central Hospital (HCM) noticed smoke coming from one of the operating theatres undergoing rehabilitation there. Shortly afterwards, it was confirmed that there was fire in that wing of the HCM.
At the time of writing, the precise cause of the fire that consumed the Central Operating theatre and Clinic IV [ Bloco Operatório Central e Clínica IV was still not known, but firefighters were already on-site battling the flames, with two trucks in attendance.
Hospital management was still collecting information about what had happened, and promised clarification in due course.
In May last year, part of HCM records archive was consumed by fire, destroying patients’ clinical history going back 10 years. Hospital management played down the loss, saying that it was unlikely the records would ever be needed.
