Maputo-Catembe Bridge will no longer be completed in December as initially planned because of construction delays at the northern and southern ends.
Delays in the relocation of the Nwankakana vendors and the ongoing presence of electricity transmission equipment are the most likely reasons for delay, according to Maputo-Sul.
It is in the area of Malanga, where access ramps to the bridge are being built, that work is falling furthest behind. Issues around the Nwankakana market and the delay in the transfer of EDM cables along the OAU Avenue pose the most serious problems.
The laying of the main deck is however proceeding satisfactorily and the scheduled finishing of the north tower is expected to be completed by the end of this month.
