The Maputo-Catembe bridge, now nearing completion, will be illuminated throughout its length with landscape lighting in addition to night lighting for the roadway. The coloured lighting being installed will make the three kilometres of the bridge’s profile visible across a large part of both Matola and Maputo districts.
The landscape lighting planned – a mix of small lamps – will outline the entire structure, including the support cables and the main deck. These lights are not intended for signalling or lighting of the bridge, but rather aim to highlight the new infrastructure as part of Maputo’s new landscape.
Two months to go
The construction of the bridge and connecting roads is forging ahead, with hopes high that by May – that is, within a period of approximately two months – the work could be complete. If everything goes as planned, the official opening to road traffic between Maputo and Catembe municipal district will have taken place by June.
