The Maputo-KaTembe Bridge construction company Maputo Sul has again failed to meet construction deadlines, O Pais reports.
Maputo Sul CEO Silva Magaia had promised to finish the access roads in the Malanga area by July 31, but on the ground the reality is one of construction machines still hard at work.
At the site, O País not only witnessed the unfinished nature of the works, but also heard from workers who said there was still a lot of work to be done, such as the finishing off the sides of the lanes, signage and the second and last layer of asphalt.
A month ago, Maputo South said that the completion of the on-ramp was dependent on the resettlement of two families with whom Maputo South was still negotiating compensation amounts.
On Tuesday, O País contacted the families to ask about the stage of the negotiations, but they did not agree to record interviews. The news team found that the negotiations were being difficult, as Maputo Sul reportedly plans to pay 200,000 meticais to each family, an amount deemed insignificant.
Contacted by O País, the Maputo Sul CEO was unavailable to record an interview.
