Four toll stations will be established on the roads to Ponta do Ouro and Bela Vista/Boane, within the framework of the construction of the Maputo-Catembe bridge.
One of the poll stations will be directly connected to the bridge and the others will be deployed on the roads to the border, Bela Vista and Boane. However, the exact locations of the toll booths are yet to be established.
According to Silva Magaia, chairman of the Board of Directors of the managing Maputo South Development Company, the tolls will cover about 190 kilometres of roads. Initially, only two toll stations were planned, but Magaia said the increased number of tolls would be fairer to users.
Since one of the stations would be next to the bridge, it did not make sense, from Maputo South’s perspective, that all users of the 190 kilometres of highways should be taxed at a single point and in the same way.

Magaia said that, unlike the Maputo Ring Road, which was budgeted and funded without tolls, the bridge and linkage road package envisaged at least two tolling stations initially, which would generate funds for the installation of the other two tolls.
As for the Ring Road, now 90 percent complete and in use since the end of 2015, Magaia reiterated that at least two more toll stations would open by March of next year, collecting funds for rehabilitation works that were already necessary in some points. Contracts covering these would be signed within days, he added.
The units will be located in the “Casa Jovem” zone on the Costa do Sol and EN1 after Zimpeto, in the direction of Marracuene. Studies last year that about 35,000 vehicles pass these sections daily, representing a sizeable maintenance challenge.
