The former Mozambican finance minister and deputy of the Assembly of the Republic, Manuel Chang, will appear in court in South African court on Tuesday, following his detention on December 29 at Oliver Tambo airport in Johannesburg.
Chang’s detention is based on an international arrest warrant issued by the United States of America for alleged involvement in crimes of electronic fraud and money laundering.
Mozambique’s attorney general met Chang’s defence council on Friday at the latter’s request, and promised to issue a statement today.
According to international news agencies, a US court in Brooklyn has scheduled the first hearing in the case for January 22.
