Speaking on March 11 at the international ecumenical service of the Johane Marange Church in Vanduzi district, the Governor of Manica discussed waterborne diseases, chronic malnutrition and insufficient blood in the body as among the pathologies which require health care in the shape of the state health system.
Francisca Tomãs wants the religious sects to acknowledge the efforts of the government to implement social policies aimed at the well-being of communities.
For Tomãs, the church elders should encourage their believers to participate in vaccination campaigns and the state education system, which aim to deliver health and knowledge to citizens.
One evil which must be combated in religious sects, the governor of Manica noted, is the persistence of premature marriage hampering the progress of girls.
“We don’t want to hear that adults, that is, men, are trying to ‘lobolar’ children here in the Church,” she stressed, adding that Mozambican law punishes the offence.
In conclusion, the Governor appealed for the observance of hygiene measures to prevent the spread of cholera and, in this rainy season, avoiding crossing rivers susceptible to flooding.
So challenged, the faithful of the Johane Marange Church, among them spiritual leader Nimrod Taguta, committed themselves to strictly observing government policies favouring the well-being of communities.
