More than 1,500 mangrove logs and stakes cut illegally in the coastal area of the Nhangau administrative post in the city of Beira have been seized by the local natural resources agency.
Chairman of Nhangau’s Natural Resources Management Committee Afonso Escova said that a vehicle used to transport the stakes was also seized in connection with the case.
According to Escova, Ntchalane, Tchondja and Rio Maria beaches are preferred by illegal loggers, who are often in league with local charcoal burners.
