A scheme apparently elaborated to the smallest detail resulted in the theft of 14 million meticais from a bank branch in Macanga district,Tete province.
Police indicate that six people participated in the scheme, four of whom have already been arrested.
The defendants allegedly used the money to go on a shopping spree.
They bought cars, houses, plots of land and electrical appliances over a short period of time, such that the police only managed to recover only one million meticais of the 14 million stolen, ‘Miramar’ has learned.
Of the six people allegedly involved, the highlight goes to the manager and accountant, who also saw the goods they allegedly bought with the stolen money seized.
Work continues to identify and arrest the last two suspects, who may also currently be making purchases with the bank’s money.
