Unknown individuals this morning kidnapped the managing director of Pembe Mozambique Ltd, a company based in Machava, Matola city, Maputo province.
The victim, 34-year-old Kenyan national Taibo Macabel, was traveling in his own car when his way was blocked by two vehicles. Wielding an AK 47-type firearm and a hammer, the occupants forced him to get into their vehicle and then drove away.
According to Maputo police spokesman Juarce Marce Martins, the police were tipped off by passers-by who witnessed the abduction.
Martins said that the police had already contacted the family and the company for which Macabel works in order to monitor possible contact with the abductors, although none had yet been made.
Police units are already working on the ground to rescue the victim and arrest the perpetrators, and the Martins urged any citizen with information on the matter to get in touch with the police as quickly as possible.
