Man jailed in Boane over rape of his 10-year old daughter

A man aged over 30 has been arrested by the police in Boane on charges of raping his 10-year-old daughter, and has confessed to the crime.
The accused has brazenly confessed to having stopped being a father in order to dedicate himself to sexual intimacy with his daughter.
The case has excited feels of outrage and shame in Boane, Maputo province.
The incident has come as a massive shock for other parents, who cannot find an explanation for such a crime perpetrated by those whose duty is to protect, love and educate.
Police in Maputo province are concerned about the increasing number of such cases.
For crimes of this nature, a 20- to 24-year-prison sentence is normal, possibly aggravated by the fact that the perpetrator is the father of the victim.
