Man arrested over rape of 7-year-old stepdaughter in Macate

A man is being held in Macate district, Manica province, for allegedly raping his 7-year-old stepdaughter.
The young man allgedly claims that his wife refused to have sex with him, and that he had therefore, as an alternative, systematically violated the child since December last year.
The man says that he gave the child money to engage in sexual activity with him, so that his behaviour would not become a matter of public knowledge.
Manica PRM spokesman Mateus Mindú says that the man was detained after the mother of the child lodged a complaint.
The woman said she had surprised her husband leaving the child’s room at night.
