An individual is being held by the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) on the grounds of his alleged involvement in the kidnapping on Saturday of businessman Bharat Kumar on Rua António Furtado in the capital’s Bairro Central C neighbourhood.
Kumar is the owner of an establishment selling cars and another selling alcoholic beverages.
PRM spokesman for Maputo, Leonel Muchina, did not provide further details of the arrest of the alleged kidnapper of the 59-year-old businessman, a Mozambican citizen of Asian origin.
The victim was snatched from his bottle store near the 1st Police Station by five men and forced into a white vehicle, whose licence plate has not been identified.
The crime occurred less than a week after the kidnapping of another businessman in Maputo.
