Man arrested for killing four-year-old niece in Mahotas, Maputo

A 24-year-old man has been arrested for killing his four-year-old niece with a broken bottle in the Ferroviario das Mahotas neighbourhood of the nation’s capital.
According to police spokesman Orlando Mudumane, speaking in Maputo during the weekly press briefing, the perpetrator was arrested by the population who dashed in vain to the child’s aid.
Mudumane described a chaotic situation with only the police’s prompt intervention saving the man from a lynching.
The man is now detained at the 14th Precinct Police Station in Maputo pending legal proceedings.
