Two individuals have been detained by Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in Mopeia district, Zambézia province, indicted for attempted human trafficking involving a one-year-old girl.
One of the detainees is the father of the minor, and the other a friend of his. They were both arrested by the police in Mopeia district while attempting to sell the infant, PRM spokesman Sidiner Lonzo announced this Monday (19-12).
Lonzo explained that the two individuals went to the house of a citizen and proposed that he buy the minor for 120,000 meticais. Realising that this was illegal, the man reported them to the police, and they were arrested in flagrante delicto.
Lonzo said that the infant’s father cited economic needs, when asked about the motivation for the crime.
Lonzo went on to urge residents in that part of the country to cultivate respect for human rights.
