Africa's Eswatini Kingdom plans $275m wealth fund
A Catholic priest in Malawi who was last month convicted and jailed for 30 years for the murder of a man with albinism has died while in prison, Church authorities say.
In a brief statement, the Episcopal Conference of Malawi said Fr Thomas Muhosha died in hospital “where he was receiving treatment”.
No cause of death was given for the 52 year old.
“The Catholic Church in Malawi deeply regrets his death,” the statement added.
The priest was one of five people convicted last month of murdering a man whose body parts they planned to sell.
Macdonald Masumbuka, who had albinism, was killed in 2018.
The killing of people with albinism is linked to witchcraft rituals, with practitioners wrongly believing the victim’s body parts bring good luck.
