Authorities in Nsanje are removing close to 90 Mozambican refugees from a public school to a works camp ahead of opening on Monday for third term of school calendar.
Director of Administration for Nsanje District Council Richardson Mkolombwe said all the 88 refugees will be removed from Ndindi Primary School to an Mota Engil works camp.
“We do not want lessons to be disturbed when schools open on Monday,” he said.
He said some refugees were renting houses in some villages but have since been moved to he temporary refugee camp.
“We want all refugees to be at one place because it is easier to screen or monitor them as not all of them might be refugees, some of them might be thugs or might possess dangerous weapons,” said Mkozombwe.
He said this was why 20 refugees who were renting houses in Maguruguru village were moved to Ndindi Primary school.
