The Macúti dredger, damaged last June in a collision with a foreign cargo ship in the port of Beira access channel, has been in a ship repair dock in South Africa since last Thursday.
The vessel’s repair, which will take about 180 days, will include fitting new engines, repairing the engine room and replacing the protective plates in the area affected.
According to Rádio Moçambique, the repair work will cost around US$10 million.
Six technicians from EMODRAGA (Empresa Moçambican de Dragagens), Mozambican dredging company, were dispatched to South Africa to shadow the dredger’s repair process.
