Investment in Mozambique (InvestimoZ), created with the aim of promoting investment support in the country for Portuguese or Portuguese-Mozambican companies, has funds available to back suitable projects.
The fund, which is managed by the Society for Financial Development (SOFID), is intended to finance investment projects or strategic partnerships in the areas of energy (especially renewable energy), environment and infrastructure, taking in particular into account their economic, financial and environmental sustainability.
A presentation ceremony organized by InvestimoZ in partnership with the Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD) under the slogan “Luso-American Partnerships for Development in Africa” debated investment-related issues and their contribution to job creation, skills transfer and the economic and social development of the country.
The President of the Board of Directors of SOFID, Antonio Rebelo de Sousa, explained the advantages to Mozambique of the credit made available by InvestimoZ at this stage in its economic development.
“Mozambique is an economy in transition and, as such, needs cheap money for the development of infrastructure. And InvestimoZ can play a very important role in this regard,” he said.
With regard to Luso-American partnerships, the Mozambican private sector considers that they constitute an opportunity for dialogue around investment and its role in job creation, technology transfer and economic and social development.
According to the vice-president of the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA), Rui Monteiro, this is due to the fact that “Mozambique faces the challenge of significantly increasing its economic competitiveness, and mobilizing and leveraging its resources and skills for job creation”.
Theodora Dell, economist at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), said that the main objective of the Luso-American partnership is “to encourage investment in Mozambique and other Portuguese-speaking developing countries”.
