The National Road Administration (ANE) has warned that, as of next Saturday, the gross weight of vehicles circulating on National Road Number 1 (EN1), in the section between Namialo, in Nampula province, and Metoro in Cabo Delgado, should not exceed 40 tons.
This restriction is being imposed because of the current condition of the bridge over the Lúrio river connecting the provinces of Nampula and Cabo Delgado, between the districts of Eráti and Chiúre.
A communique received by Radio Mozambique says that safety consideration dictate that heavy vehicles will only be able to cross the Lúrio bridge one at a time, a measure which will remain in place while funds for the rehabilitation of the infrastructure are mobilised.
