The People’s Republic of China has provided Mozambique’s Defence and Security Forces 60,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine.
“After the country received the first vaccine doses, today we receive this additional sum, destined, in particular, to the FADM,” Defence Minister Jaime Neto said, adding that the doses would allow the army to fulfil its mission.
“The act which we have just witnessed is another unmistakable sign of the excellent ties of cooperation which unite Mozambique and China, particularly in the field of defence,” the minister observed.
Immunisation will first be offered to personnel on the front line in the fight against terrorism in Cabo Delgado.
“The Mozambican defence sector has been receiving unconditional support from the People’s Republic of China as regards the training, professionalisation and specialisation of the FADM. The vaccines that we have just received will provide immunisation for the Armed Forces for the Defense of Mozambique, thus allowing our troops to fulfil their assigned missions, particularly in combating armed incursions by terrorists in Cabo Delgado and of the Military Junta of Renamo in Manica and Sofala provinces,” Minister Neto said.
“We are pleased to note the fact that China is adapting its support to the FADM in light of concrete scenarios – in this case, support aimed at combating the Covid-19 pandemic,” Jaime Neto concluded.
After those donated by China and India, the 60,000 doses provided by the Chinese government are the third donation of vaccines the country has received.
