Delays in handling documents on the part of Zimbabwe at the Machipanda border crossing is causing long lines trucks, to the consternation of long-distance lorry drivers.
The scenario on National Road Number 6 exhibits long lines of trucks intending to enter the country from Zimbabwe and others attempting to leave Mozambique via the Machipanda border crossing in Manica province.
The situation is due to the slowness in the processing of documents on the part of Zimbabwean migration authorities, which leaves drivers waiting in Mozambique, or even in Zimbabwe, for a long time.
Mozambican Tax Authority delegate Estrela Cossa said that another factor causing the back-up of trucks is the Covid-19 test report required of drivers.
And, with the Christmas and New Year celebrations closing fast, the situation may soon become even worse.
