Mozambique: Matola City Council plans to remove buildings from water retention basins - report
Miramar
Mozambique Customs has seized more than 90 containers of contraband timber and more than 800 boxes of beverages in the last 2 months, detaining 12 individuals, including customs officials, in the process.
In another operation against organized crime, the timber was seized whilst in transit from Tete province en route to the Port of Beira, and could earn the state 95 million meticais, excluding fines.
Beverages have also been in the spotlight.
Mozambican Customs estimate that half of all alcoholic beverages imported into Mozambique enter the country without proper duties being paid, but the prospective digital sealing of beverages and tobacco is seen as a way to end the black market in the sale of sealing stamps.
In the same period, 2.5 million meticais-worth of grocery products were seized by customs authorities.
