Logging operators protested Monday in Manica against Manica Forest Industry (IFLOMA), allegedly it has unilaterally rescinded their timber harvesting contracts in concessioned areas.
Logging operators say the contracts were scheduled to end in March next year, but IFLOMA’s production unit terminated them prematurely without any justification.
IFLOMA acknowledges the situation but says it terminated the contracts because operators were being dishonest and removing higher than agreed quantities of wood. Altogether eight logging operations are affected by the situation, each employing more than 100 workers.
When O País contacted the Mediation and Labour Disputes Centre in Manica on the matter, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security agency promised to investigate and release a statement in due course.
