Mozambican singer Lizha James announced today that she has tested positive for Covid-19 and called on all Mozambicans to take preventative measures “seriously”.
“I was tested for Covid-19 , the result came back positive and, at the moment, I am in isolation. I want to encourage all Mozambicans to continue taking precautions and to take [prevention] seriously,” said the singer , in a video shared today on her Facebook page.

According to a statement, the singer was tested for Covid-19 “after a slight discomfort” and, after the positive result, her family was also tested, now waiting for the results.
Lizha James’ last public appearance was to perform at a television show, on August 16.
“With a view to safeguarding the health of everyone who may have come into contact with Lizha James in the past few weeks, it is intended, through this release, to draw their attention to all possible symptoms associated to Covid-19,” adds the note.
Lizha James, one of the most popular singers in the country, started her career in 2005 and has won several awards, including the best artist in Southern Africa, in 2009.
Mozambique has recorded a total of 4,039 positive cases of Covid-19 since the first case was announced on March 22, with 23deaths and 2,283 recoveries.
The coronavirus pandemic has already killed at least 851,071 people and infected more than 25.5 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the French agency AFP.
