A Malaysian team will comb the beach of Mozambique in the hopes of finding more aircraft fragments after possible debris from Flight MH370 was found there.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Liow said the first piece found early this month in the African country had been brought back to Malaysia last week.
He said a team comprising the MH370 Safety Investigation Team, Civil Aviation Department and Malaysia Airlines was making arrangements to take custody of the second piece from the South African Civil Aviation Authority. The piece had been taken to South Africa by the person who discovered it.
“We hope to bring it back by this week. (After that), we will send it to Australia for further examination and verification,” he said at a press conference after launching the i-Star Internship Program at Tunku Abdul Rahman University College here yesterday.
Liow also said that a second team of experts was inspecting another debris found in the French island of La Reunion, where the MH370 flaperon was discovered last July, in the Indian Ocean. It would be taken to France for verification by the authorities there.
“It is important to re-emphasise that at this juncture, it has not been confirmed whether any of the recovered debris came from MH370,” said Liow.
“Therefore, it is crucial that verification of all three pieces be conducted by the respective teams of experts in Australia and France.”
He urged the public to avoid premature and unwarranted speculation and said that his ministry would provide official updates when the information became available.
