Mozambique: BIOFUND participates in the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2025 in Abu Dhabi
Five provincial forestry and wildlife services officers and three alleged accomplices were arrested last week in Lichinga on suspicion of being involved in illegal timber exploitation at the Matama hill on the outskirts of the city.
‘Diario de Mozambique’ learned from provincial police spokesman in Niassa, Alves Mate, that 54 pine logs were apprehended.
“Five officers and three individuals are being held. Investigations are continuing in order to neutralize further elements, and the paperwork will be forwarded to the relevant authorities in due course,” Mate said.
