The renowned French musical group Les Percussions de Strasbourg is in Maputo for a series of exchange activities, performances and collaborations. Their artistic residency is part of the “Building with Music” project, and aims to promote a musical exchange between local and international artists.
The artistic residency includes workshops at the UEM School of Communication and Arts, the Xiquitsi Project and National School of Music, among other cultural spaces dedicated to music professionals and new experiences of joint creation.
In addition, two concerts will be presented, featuring a cultural dialogue between traditional Mozambican music and its contemporary interpretation.
These concerts, which will combine traditional African instruments and Western classical instruments, are scheduled for June 20th at the Artistas space and for June 21st at the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Centre.
The artist residency is the result of preparatory work that began in 2024, focused on exploring and discovering elements to share, with particular emphasis on the collaboration between Les Percussions de Strasbourg and the Mozambican musician Matchume Zango.
Founded in 1962, Les Percussions de Strasbourg are recognized worldwide as ambassadors of musical creation. With an exceptional repertoire, the group performs masterpieces of the 20th century and has commissioned new compositions, always with the aim of bringing contemporary heritage to life while continuing to innovate in a context of artistic diversification.
