Installation of the central lane separator on National Road Number Four (EN4) between Avenida de Moçambique (formerly Brigada-Montada) in Maputo city and the Matola Shoprite intersection will start next week.
The work is expected to last three months, and will result in a physical barrier preventing vehicles crossing into oncoming traffic, the cause of a considerable number of accidents.
The news was released to ‘Notícias’ by Fenias Mazive of Trans African Concessions (TRAC), the concessionaire of the highway linking Maputo Port and the Witbank region of South Africa.
The cost of the project was not disclosed, it being claimed that that there were still contractual issues to be finalized with the contractor.
As far as is known, the central lane separator will consist of curbing stones.
The barrier should have been placed during the rehabilitation and extension of the section, but the design was still under discussion between TRAC and the National Roads Administration at that time.
