Mozambique: Insurgents attack farming community in Cabo Delgado - Lusa

Residents of Mulotane are outraged by the behaviour of a purported native of the area who is laying claim to more than seven hectares of land but has no legal documents proving him to be the true owner.
In Mozambique, land cannot by law be sold, so people settling in Mulotane in the 90s were allocated the space by local political structures.
Life progressed normally until 2015 when, without presenting any supporting documentation, a man called Cipriano Dlate laid claim to the seven hectares of land on the grounds that it belonged to his ancestors.
The dispute has been characterised by acts of violence, including unlawful arrest. This Tuesday morning, attempts to demolish houses using excavators were successfully prevented by the residents.
