Mozambique Airlines (LAM) announced on Tuesday that it has been readmitted to the IATA Clearing House (ICH), an international financial clearing mechanism managed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
As part of IATA’s industry-wide settlement system, ICH manages over 60 billion US dollars in annual billings, with over 560 participants, including 330 airlines, and 230 suppliers.
Last July, IATA had announced that LAM failed to channel 205 million dollars in this year, heading a group of ten nations that accounted for 80 per cent of the amounts not transferred to airlines worldwide.
According to the organization, between October 2024 and April 2025, Mozambique topped the list of countries with the highest amounts withheld from the purchase of tickets for international flights.
In a statement, LAM reveals that it has been readmitted and it “ensures that all transactions between airlines and industry entities, including ticket sales, cargo transportation, maintenance services, and airport charges, are conducted in a secure, centralized, and efficient manner.”
“The readmission occurs within the scope of the ongoing restriction process and after LAM has fully complied with its financial obligations to IATA. The reinstatement took effect on October 2, 2025, restoring the company to its full status within the international aviation community”, reads the document.

According to the note, with this decision, LAM resumes active participation in the global account settlement system, “enabling it to make and receive payments regularly and reliably from airlines and international partners.”
The company also announced the entry into service of an Airbus A319 aircraft, leased with crew and maintenance included, with capacity for 144 passengers.
“The lease is not part of the new aircraft acquisition plan, but responds to an immediate need to strengthen the fleet, allowing it to increase operational capacity, cover peak season, reduce delays and cancellations, and improve flight punctuality”, reads the document.

However, the document says, the company still has its plan of acquiring five new aircraft by December 2025 “as part of the fleet expansion program, which aims to improve service quality, operational reliability, and the passenger experience.”
IATA is responsible for the international financial clearing mechanism, which ensures that all transactions between airlines and entities in the sector, including ticket sales, cargo transport, maintenance services and airport taxes, are carried out in a secure, centralised and efficient manner, recalls LAM.
