LAM Mozambique Airlines: 'We discovered a den of corruption implanted within our company' - Watch

At a security workshop organised by the flag carrier yesterday, Mozambican Airlines (LAM) said that the lack of police authorities at checkpoints and cargo loading facilities was putting the safety of passengers and crew members at risk.
The AVSEC Working Day brought together representatives of Mozambican Airlines, Mozambican Airports and the police to consolidate safety strategies and standards in the aviation industry.
Speaking at the meeting, the president of LAM’s Executive Committee said that there was vulnerability in security systems in general, which could compromise the safety of users.
“We live with vulnerabilities in the security system in general, deficiencies in access control, inefficient passenger and worker scrutiny, absence of PRM at checkpoints, broken scrutinising equipment, absence of scrutiny at some freight terminals, lack of scrutiny in VIP rooms, lack of training in police security, lack of knowledge of prohibited articles in passengers’ luggage and the absence of regular FALSEC meetings at most airports,” he said.
António Pinto said that security was of the greatest importance in preventing attacks.
“This initiative arises in the context of a globalised world associated with the growth of terrorist acts that threaten society, including in some regions of Africa,” he said.
The one-day workshop was part of LAM’s strategy to improve the safety and quality of customer service and was guided by an international airline safety consultancy.
