LAM cancels flights due to failure on its largest airplane

Mozambican Airlines (LAM) announced in a statement that it had cancelled two flights on Saturday and Sunday due to a breakdown in their largest airplane. The cancelled flights were on the Pemba-Maputo and Maputo-Nampula-Lichinga routes.
In a statement sent to Lusa, the Mozambican national carrier reported that it was forced to postpone last Saturday’s Pemba-Maputo flight, following a malfunction detected on the aircraft.
The trip, which should have taken place on Saturday morning, only happened on Sunday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the Maputo-Nampula-Lichinga flight, operated by the same aircraft, only happened at 6 p.m. on Saturday, when it should have left at 6:30 a.m. that same day.
“Within the efforts to provide solutions, without affecting other destinations of the company, alternatives have been found,” read the press release.
The cancellation of the two flights dictated the postponement of two matches of Moçambola, the Mozambique’s main league football championship.
The Chibuto-Textáfrica match was postponed until today, and the Ferroviário de Nampula – Maxaquene until Wednesday, inserted in the 15th round of the championship.
The Mozambican head of state Filipe Nyusi expressed displeasure in April during a visit to LAM that he found four of the company’s seven units paralysed due to malfunctions.
