Mozambique: Ressano Garcia rail line reopens after five-day closure
The Inspectorate-General for Labour (IGT) has detected irregularities at Lianhe Africa Agriculture for the second time and has suspended its activities again.
Activities at the company, which is engaged in the production and processing of rice, were suspended for the first time in March for non-compliance with labour legislation, especially the hiring of foreign labour in disregard of laws in force.
“Of the total of 48 workers, 12 foreigners, all Chinese, had been hired illegally, which culminated in the immediate suspension of all activities and a fine,” a Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security note reads.
A total of eight infringements were detected, two relating to violation of basic obligations and including lack of written contracts, and six related to hygiene and health and safety.
The IGT warned other companies contracting expatriate workers to correct irregularities detected by inspection teams within the deadlines given or face stiff penalties.
