Mozambique: Rita Freitas ceases duties as Inspector General of INAE
The Minister of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs of Mozambique, Isac Chande, said in Maputo on Friday that the country’s first labour courts would start operating this year, and pointing to job stability as a potential gain.
Isac Chande said that the first labour courts would operate in the capital, Maputo, in the south of the country, followed by roll-out to other parts of the territory.
“All the conditions have been created for labour tribunals to start operating in a gradual process,” Minister Chande said.
To date, labour matters have been settled in ordinary courts, and it is hoped that specialised courts will speed up the resolution of labour disputes.
Isac Chande said cyclical and financial constraints were the reasons for the delay in the labour courts coming into operation, despite the law approving their creation having been enacted in 1992.
That law has since been subject to review by the Assembly of the Republic in the light of other legislative changes.
