Speaking at a popular rally in Liupo district at the beginning of his visit to the province of Nampula, President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi yesterday morning reiterated that armed attacks perpetrated by Renamo in the central provinces of the country with the loss of human lives and property damage make no sense, especially now that government and Renamo delegations are preparing for dialogue to restore peace.
“I have been talking to Renamo leader Afonso Dhlakama lately about the meeting that working groups representing the government and the opposition party are preparing for the search for consensus aimed at returning our country to peace. However, Afonso Dhlakama insists on sending his men to kill people, which does not make sense at this time,” the president said.
The head of the state, who will be in Nampula until Wednesday, urged the population not to support anyone thinking of killing his own brother, insisting that this attitude was reprehensible from all points of view.
As the president explained to the population of Liupo: “Democracy does not mean taking the lives of people as well as achieving power. Do not resort to arms to destroy the country and its achievements. The best way is to hold elections so that the winner can govern freely.”
Yesterday afternoon, Filipe Nyusi officially opened the Monapo teacher training institute in Nacololo and a new district hospital in the same district.
