The police National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) in Maputo province has said that the investigation into the kidnapping of Shelton Lalgy in ongoing.
Shelton Lalgy, son of businessman Juneide Lalgy, was kidnapped by persons unknown just metres from his home in the city of Matola on 28 November.
The director of SERNIC in Maputo province, Benjamina Chaves, acknowledges that the investigation of this case is complex.
“The investigation continues. In abductions, the investigation is unlikely to have the cooperation of the family itself. Kidnappers threaten both the victim and the victim’s family members. Therefore, it has not been easy for family members to collaborate with the authorities in throwing light on the case,” she said.
Rumours circulated recently that the kidnappers had demanded a large ransom, but Chaves said that the police had no such information.
