Kenyan business-people and experts have been visiting the province of Cabo Delgado in search of land in to produce rice, corn and avocado on an industrial scale, for the domestic market and for export.
The intention was confirmed by the chief of a Kenyan business mission which recently visited the province with the agricultural experts who will implement the project, called MozKen.
“With the MozKen project, we hope to contribute to the development of Mozambique and Cabo Delgado in particular, since in addition to technology transfer and job creation for local communities as entrepreneurs, we will pay fees to the Mozambican government,” head of the mission James Mathengue said.
The government of the province is open to Kenyan investment, and guarantees all necessary support for the implementation of the MozKen project.
Cabo Delgado has fertile land for agriculture but lacks investment in water infrastructure. Most of the rivers are periodic and the few existing reservoirs are below capacity because of irregular rainfall.
