The Buzi river in Sofala province has registered a considerable rise as a result of rain falling upstream, with an imminent risk of flooding.
Houses and agricultural plots in the lower Pungwe, especially in the Tica and Mutua regions, are already flooded, according to the director-general of the Regional Administration of Águas do Centro, Cacilda Machava.
“Our call is for people always to exercise caution and avoid crossing streams in this situation, because they do not know how deep the water is right now. In the city of Beira, the call is to make efforts to allow rainwater to drain, to not obstruct the paths through which the water must flow,” she said.
