A woman was kidnapped this Tuesday in the city of Maputo. The crime took place on Avenida Mao Tse Tung, just outside the Consulate General of Portugal.
The victim is the wife of a Mozambican businessman, who owns a hotel in the city of Nampula, witnesses said.
Witnesses say that there were three kidnappers and that they used force to drag the lady all the way to their vehicle and then flee.
“I happened to see a car, black. We were close by. The car drove around three times and then parked in the middle [parking lane]. After that, one of them got out and stopped nearby and we thought it was normal. The lady left [the General Consulate of Portugal], together with another woman and suddenly they took the lady,” a witness said.
Another person who witnessed the crime said that “there were some gentlemen leaning against a car and when the two women tried to cross the road, the kidnappers went around and dragged one of them to the vehicle. Among them was a man with an AKM gun, who helped put the lady in the car. ”
The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) and the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) came to the scene, but made no statements.
This is the second kidnapping to take place in the city of Maputo in less than two days.
