Mozambique today reported two more deaths of patients with Covid-19. “These are two Mozambican men, aged 84 and 89, who died after their clinical condition worsened during their stay in hospital in Maputo,” announced the Ministry of Health on Friday.
This brings the Mozambican death toll from Covid-19 to 64.
MISAU announced a further 91 positive cases of infection by the novel coronavirus, bringing the total to 8,979, of which 8,684 cases are of local transmission and 295 are imported.
Maputo City registered the majority of the newly diagnosed cases reporte today, with a total of 73 (80.2%), followed by the province of Tete, with seven cases (7.7%).
The health authorities recorded a further 22 cases reported as recovered, bringing rhe total cumulative of recoveries to 5,595 (62%).
The Ministry of Health informed that 243 patients remain hospitalised due to COVID-19. Of these, 47 are in inpatient centres for people with COVID-19 and in other Private Hospital Units.
The city of Maputo, the country’s capital, continues to register the highest number of active cases, with 1,942 active infections, followed by Maputo province with 723 and the remaining provinces register less than 200 active cases.
Since the announcement of the first infection on 22 March, a total of 142,028 suspected cases have been tested.
